Diocesan Journal—We are wary of giving a “date certain”, having had so many postponements, but we anticipate having a printed Journal in each parish, as well as a Journal on the website, before Sept. 1. There will be an online form for clergy to update their information for the office database, so that future directories of parishes and clergy can be printed at any time.

Clergy Conference change—Because of anticipated parish and community memorial observances on September 11, the dates of the Clergy Conference have been changed. The conference will begin at 5 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 9, and end at noon on Sept. 11. Reminder—Sept. 10 is an election day, so be sure arrange for an absentee ballot if you’re going to attend the Clergy Conference.

Presiding Bishop’s Visit—Mark your calendars now for the visit of Presiding Bishop Frank Griswold to our diocese next January 25! Bishop Griswold will be at St. Paul’s, Key West, for that congregation’s 170th observance of its patronal festival--a celebration for the whole diocese of 170 years of Episcopal presence in southern Florida. Plan to spend the day—or the weekend—we’ll soon be providing suggestions on where to stay, as well as more information about the event.

Hispanic Picnic--The Diocesan Hispanic Commission and parishes with ministries to Spanish-speaking persons are hosting a summer picnic on Sunday, Aug.18, 1-6 p.m., at the South Broward YMCA facilities (3161 Taft Street) in Hollywood, Florida. The entire YMCA facility will be open and available to all the participants.  This includes swimming and outdoor sports, as well as indoor track and basketball courts. Transportation will be provided for those parishes that need it.  Hot dogs and hamburgers, sodas and chips will also be provided free of charge. Participants are encouraged to bring a typical plate of food from their country of origin to share with others. For more information, please call Fr. Ramón Aymerich at (954) 985-0256 or email him at episcopales@aol.com.

Christian Educator Certification workshop — The Diocesan Commission on Christian Formation and Education is providing a workshop offering Christian educators tools to help students “catch” the faith, Aug. 23-24, at St. Joseph’s, Boynton Beach. The Friday evening session is from 6-9 p.m., and the Saturday session is from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. For complete information, contact Kokie Dinnan, (561) 731-2500 or childsjc@bellsouth.net, or Krisan Lamberti, (305) 858-5075 or moonlightk@aol.com.

Celebration of the McGregors’ ministryThe Chapel of St. Andrew will hold a service and dinner Sept. 8, 4-7 p.m., in celebration of the ministry of Fr. Todd McGregor and his family in Madagascar. The McGregors are on furlough in Florida for the next few months before beginning a new ministry in Kenya. For more information on the celebration for the McGregors, call the Chapel, 561-483-8044 or click here!

Clergy Spouse Wellness Day -- All clergy spouses have received a mailing about the Clergy Spouse Wellness Day, Sept. 21 at the Duncan Center. The day will include workshops on Centering Prayer, Emotional Quotient and Laughter, but these are optional; the focus of the day is fun, worship and fellowship together. The cost is $25. Registrations need to be mailed to the Diocesan office by Sept. 10. For more information, contact Mary Sinisi, 800-268-9993 or 305-373-0881, ext. 20, or by email at sinisi@diosef.org.

Golf Tournament—The deadline for the Convention Golf Tournament on Oct. 18 at International Links, 1802 NW 37 Ave., Miami, has been extended till Sept. 15. For more information, contact Burnie Hughes at hughesbghughes@aol.com or (h) 305-232-2553 or (o)305-870-6013.

EFM Mentor Training—originally scheduled for Aug. 16-18 at the Duncan Center has been postponed to Jan. 10-12, 2003. If you’re interested in joining or forming an Education for Ministry group, or becoming an EFM mentor, please contact diocesan EFM Coordinator Bill Thorstad at 561-392-3417, or by email at mjollnir5@aol.com. For additional information on EFM, go to: http://www.sewanee.edu/EFM/EFMhome.html.

Helping students connect with church -- Colleges don't necessarily pass along names and addresses of Episcopal students to campus chaplains. You can help your congregation's college students connect with campus ministries and local congregations by making sure the campus chaplains have students' names, campus addresses, phone numbers and (very important) email addresses. If you don't have contact information for the chaplain at a particular college, email Fr. Frank Corbishley at fcorbishley@miami.edu with the name of the college(s) in question, and he will check his directory of campus chaplains for the information you need. Of course, be sure to put students on the mailing list for the parish newsletter, so they can stay connected with their home parish, too.

Parish Communicators’ Workshop— A workshop for parish communicators is scheduled for Oct. 12, 9:30 a.m. to noon, at St. Thomas, Coral Gables. Presented by the team that led our successful first workshop at St. Joseph’s in May, the morning will offer strategies and techniques for public relations and internal communications, and information on developing a parish website—plus time to exchange ideas with others who are working in this ministry. Contact Mary Cox at the Diocesan Office, by phone, 1-800-268-9993 or email, EpiscoRat@aol.com, for further information.

Prayer Vigil—As in the past, the Anglican Fellowship of Prayer is sponsoring a yearlong prayer vigil for General Convention 2003. Each diocese in the Episcopal Church is invited to take responsibility for three separate days of prayer during the year; the days assigned to our diocese are Sept. 13, 2002, Jan. 5, 2003, and May 3, 2003. For more information, or for brochures with suggested prayers, contact Mary Hilton at 407-438-3166 or email mary@afp.org.
