Hurricane Preparedness—Guidelines for disaster preparedness and response, as well as forms to use for such needs as listing contact numbers for parishioners and keeping an inventory of equipment and furnishings, are posted at http://www.diosef.org/hurricane.html. A more detailed parish inventory form is available at http://download.cpg.org/insurance/publications/pdf/parish_inventory.pdf  If your congregation has not yet finished making these kinds of preparations, please download and use these guidelines and forms—disaster preparedness is part of good stewardship.

Investiture of the 26th Presiding Bishop—General admission tickets for the investiture of the Rt. Rev. Katharine Jefferts Schori as the 26th Presiding Bishop of the Episcopal Church on Nov. 4 at Washington National Cathedral can be requested by mail only according to the following procedures: Requests must be mailed to The Office of the Presiding Bishop, 815 Second Avenue, New York, NY 10017. They must be mailed and be postmarked no earlier than Aug. 15, 2006. Tickets will be distributed on the basis of when requests were mailed (not received). Each request may include the names of up to two people; no requests for groups will be honored; no requests by e-mail or fax will be accepted; the request for tickets should include a return-addressed stamped envelope in which tickets will be sent (or in which you will be informed that tickets are not available).

“We’ve Come This Far by Faith” Conference—In collaboration with the Office of Black Ministries of the Episcopal Church, the diocese will offer a conference called “We’ve Come This Far By Faith: A Way Forward For All Saints”, Aug. 25-26 at the Duncan Center. The Rev. Canon Angela Ifill, Missioner for Black Ministries of the Episcopal Church, is scheduled to be the guest speaker. The conference is designed to address some of the problems that have contributed to declining membership in predominantly Black Episcopal congregations. The cost is $70 for both days, including lodging and meals, or $30 for one day. A special workshop for youth will be offered on Saturday, Aug. 26, at a cost of $20 per youth. For additional information, contact St. Matthew’s, Delray Beach, 561-272-4143.

Youth Convention-- The Diocesan Youth Convention is scheduled for Aug. 26-27 at St. Mark's, Ft. Lauderdale. In addition to legislative work—election of Youth Commission officers and preparation of resolutions for Diocesan Convention--the conference will provide an opportunity for discussion on the actions of General Convention, as well as some background on the Episcopal Church. The cost for the convention is $25. Registration will be available online at www.episcopalsouthflorida.org/register.html

“Faith Is Caught More Than It Is Taught”—A “Faith Is Caught” course for experienced Church School teachers, new teachers and leaders of small groups will be offered Aug. 25-26 at St. James-in-the-Hills, Hollywood. Registration will be available online at www.episcopalsouthflorida.org/register.html.

Insurance Workshop—On Sept. 16, from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Chapel of St. Andrew, Boca Raton, Bill Bullock of Church Insurance will offer a workshop for clergy and parish lay leaders on insurance needs and requirements for congregations. Whether your parish is insured through Church Insurance or through another carrier, this is an important opportunity to ask questions and to make certain that you have all the insurance coverage your parish needs; so be sure that officers and/or vestry members from your congregation will attend. We expect all congregations to be represented.

Diocesan School—Classes at the Diocesan School for Christian Studies begin Sept. 9; with the exception of Eucharistic Visitor training, all classes are taught at the main campus at St. Mark’s School, Ft. Lauderdale. The 2006-2007 Diocesan School is now posted at http://www.diosef.org/dscs/index.html, and registration is available at http://www.diosef.org/register.html . Please note that the Diocesan School provides training for a variety of licensed lay ministries, such as Preacher, Pastoral Leader and Eucharistic Visitor.

Required reports—Remember that parish audit reports for 2005, as required by Canon XX, Section 2, are due in the Diocesan Office by Sept. 1. As of July 26, only 13 congregations had filed a complete 2005 audit report. Also as of July 26, six congregations had not filed a complete Parochial Report, 20 had not submitted a complete Key Personnel list to the Diocesan Office and 19 had not submitted certification of delegate election. Click here for the complete record of reports submitted—and still missing.

Online registration forms— Clergy or lay chairpersons of diocesan ministries may request online registration for events open to the diocese. Requests must be received in the Diocesan Office no less than five business weeks prior to the event. This will enable us to prepare, test and post the registration online in a timely manner. A form for submitting such requests is available at https://www.amerisurf.com/diosef/request_form.html. For questions or additional information, contact Jim Carlton at jim@diosef.org or 800-268-9993 or 305-373-0881, ext. 16.

Bishop’s Lay Ministry Awards--The Bishop’s Awards for Lay Ministry will be presented at an 11 a.m. service Oct 21 at Trinity Cathedral.
