The end of the year brings several new appointments to diocesan positions. Fr. Marty Zlatic, rector of St. Joseph’s, Boynton Beach, will be the new chair of the World Mission Commission, succeeding Fr. Bernard Griffith, rector of Christ Church, Miami, who has served since the commission was organized in 2001.

With the retirement of Fr. Tom Ryan, rector of All Saints’, Jensen Beach, on Dec. 31, Fr. Winston Wright, rector of Grace Church, West Palm Beach, will succeed him as convener of Human Needs Ministry and chair of the Human Needs Commission. Fr. Ryan has been a leader in “Social Concerns” or Human Needs Ministry throughout his ministry, and particularly in this diocese, where he was not only the first convener of Human Needs Ministry, but has also served as Jubilee Officer for the diocese.

At the Bishop’s Lay Ministry Awards on Nov. 20, Bishop Frade informally installed Deacon Howarth “Hap” Lewis, deacon-in-charge at St. George’s, Riviera Beach, as Canon for Deacons, a new position created in response to Title III, Canon 7 of the national church canons, which calls for the appointment of a deacon “to assist the Bishop in the formation, deployment, supervision, and support of the Deacons or those in preparation to be Deacons, and in the implementation of this canon”.
