One of the advantages of publishing Grapevine on the diocesan website is that we can add information—prayer requests, parish events, flyers—as we receive them, so that the newsletter is always up to date. When you put the reminder in your calendar to read Grapevine on the website on the first of the month, please add reminders to check the Grapevine pages at least once a week during the month for new information that may have been added. If you have suggestions, or information to be included, email them to Mary Cox at EpiscoRat@aol.com.

Secretary for Bishop Frade—After working as Bishop Frade’s secretary during the fall, Lillian Ottley resigned at the end of December in order to be free to accompany her husband as he travels in his ministry in our diocese and elsewhere. Bishop Frade is now interviewing several candidates for the position, and hopes to have a new secretary soon. Meanwhile, calls for Bishop Frade are being handled by Bishop Ottley’s secretary, Jackie Fernandez, at ext. 26. When you talk with Jackie, please be sure to specify which bishop’s calendar you’re discussing! You may also contact each of our three bishops by email: bishopfrade@aol.com, bishopsaid@aol.com and jottley@aol.com.

Parochial Report materials—were mailed from the Episcopal Church Center in New York. If your parish has not yet received them (and we know many of you have not), call Verlyn Hinds at 800-334-7626, and ask that the materials be faxed or emailed to you. We still need a copy of your parochial report in the diocesan office as soon as possible in order to complete the diocesan budget process.

Absalom Jones Services—will be held Sunday, Feb. 10, at 4 p.m., at St. Christopher’s, West Palm Beach, and Saturday, Feb. 23, at 10 a.m., at Trinity Cathedral, Miami. Bishop Ottley will preach at both services.

There will be a luncheon at the Renaissance Hotel (Omni), Miami, following the Feb. 23 service. Tickets are $30; call Joan Hudson, 305-235-3127, for information.

Vision-Mission-Planning Event—The Feb. 28 workshop will be led by the Rev. Chris Nelson, a Lutheran pastor who successfully transformed his mainline congregation into a "Purpose-Driven Church". For reservations, call Gail McShane, at the Diocesan Office, 800-268-9993 or 373-0881, ext. 23.

"Beyond Telepathy"—This evangelism workshop for laity, featuring the Christian drama group Friends of the Groom, will be held Apr. 13, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at All Saints’, Ft. Lauderdale. It’s part of our ongoing diocesan vision/mission process. Watch for details soon on this exciting opportunity to discover innovative "Tools to Transform Lives"!

Start Up! Start Over!—For the first time, this seminar on church growth is being offered in our diocese, at the Doubletree Guest Suites in Ft. Lauderdale, April 22-26. Bishop Frade urges as many congregations as possible to take advantage of this opportunity. Call Canon SuzeAnne Silla at the Diocesan Office for further information, or go to www.ecbf.org.

Holy Week Clergy Day—Easter 2002 will be early (Mar. 31), so Bishop Frade would like all clergy to know that the guest speaker for the Holy Week Clergy Day and Blessing of the Oils, Mar. 26, will be the Rev. Lloyd A. ("Tony") Lewis, professor of New Testament at Virginia Theological Seminary. Mark your calendars for that date.

Clergy on TV-- Canon Richard T. Nolan (retired, participant at St. Andrew's Episcopal Church, Lake Worth) and Dr. Lesley Northup (associate professor of religious studies, FIU) will be among the guests on the Viewpoint program on WPBT, Channel 2, Miami, Sunday, Feb. 3, 10:30 a.m. Fr. Steve Gushee is the moderator of the program, and the other guests panelists are the Rev. Jose Nickse (St. Brendan Roman Catholic Church, Miami), the Rev. James Summers (Northwest Baptist Church, Miami.

EFM Mentor Training—is scheduled for May 24-26, 2002 at the Duncan Center. Both Basic Mentor and Mentor Formation seminars will be offered. If you’re interested in joining or forming an Education for Ministry group, or becoming an EFM mentor, please contact diocesan EFM Coordinator Bill Thorstad at 561-392-3417, or by email at mjollnir5@aol.com. For additional information on EFM, go to: http://www.sewanee.edu/EFM/EFMhome.html.

The Rev. Todd McGregor--and his family will be on furlough in Florida from their mission work in Madagascar from August 20-December 20 of this year. Any parish that would like to have the McGregors visit during that time to talk about their ministry should contact the Chapel of St. Andrew, (561) 483-8044, for further information and scheduling. There is currently great political unrest in Madagascar; please note the special request for prayers for that country and for the McGregors. (Go to www.diosef.org/urgentmas.html for further information on the situation in Madagascar.)
