If you haven’t already registered for the Bishop’s Spring Conference-—“The Magnetic Church”, presented by Andrew Weeks, Feb. 16-17 at the Duncan Center--you have less than two weeks before the Feb. 12 registration deadline. Late registrations and walk-ins will be accepted only if space is available.

This is a two-day conference—2-6 p.m. on Friday and 8:30 a.m.- 4 p.m. on Saturday—and participants should plan to attend the entire event. The cost per person is $40 and includes refreshments and lunch on Saturday. Childcare will be available for $10 per child, Saturday only. Important: Each participant (not each church) must bring one copy of her/his parish’s newsletter, welcome brochure/visitor form or packet and contact letters, and bulletin.

Registration is closed—for both the Prison Ministry Conference on Feb. 3 and the Clergy Retreat, Feb. 5-8. We intend to provide online registration four to six weeks prior to any diocesan event—particularly those for which space is limited or for which lodging and meals need to be reserved—so we urge early registration for any event you plan to attend.

Parochial Reports and Key Personnel Forms-- According to diocesan Canons, Parochial Reports are due on Jan. 31. Each congregation has received by mail from the Episcopal Church Center in New York the materials and instructions for filing the parochial report online; these forms and instructions are also available at http://www.episcopalchurch.org/research_62344_ENG_HTM.htm. The Key Personnel List is due Feb. 15; that form is also filed online and is available at https://www.amerisurf.com/diosef/keypersonnel.html.

Theological Education Sunday--Presiding Bishop Katharine Jefferts Schori has asked all congregations of the Episcopal Church to observe Theological Education Sunday on February 4 "in a focused way" and as an occasion to "recognize and celebrate those who teach and learn in their search for a deeper

Abslaom Jones Service--The annual Absalom Jones Service, which celebrates the first black priest in the Episcopal Church and the ministries of all Episcopalians of color, will be held Feb. 10, at 10 a.m., at Historic St. Agnes Church in Miami. Canon Nelson Pinder, national president of the Union of Black Episcopalians, will be the preacher and our diocesan Assistant Bishop James Ottley will be celebrant. As is traditional in our diocese, the service will be followed by a luncheon and fashion show in Blackett Hall at St. Agnes, sponsored by the Theodore R. Gibson chapter of the UBE. This year's theme will be "Keepers of the Flame"; the event will honor senior members of predominantly black congregations who have made significant contributions to the life and ministries of their parishes. ECW Sunday—The annual ECW Sunday service sponsored by the Episcopal Church Women of the diocese, will be held Feb. 11 at 4 p.m. at Trinity Cathedral. This year’s observance will be a celebration of the clergywomen of the diocese. Winners of the 2006 ECW essay contest will be announced at the service, as will the “Most Honored Woman” for the diocese.

Evolution Sunday--Feb. 11 has been designated as Evolution Sunday by The Clergy Letter Project, a group of more than 10,000 Christian clergy who have signed a letter asserting that Christianity and modern evolutionary science need not be at odds with one another. World Mission Sunday--Feb. 18, the last Sunday after Epiphany, is World Mission Sunday. All congregations are asked to take a special collection for missions in other countries and are encouraged to have special programs or speakers. Sewanee’s Summer Discernment Institute—Undergraduate students interested in exploring vocations in ordained ministry or service with non-profit organizations are invited to apply for 18 placement openings in the Summer Discernment Institute to be held May 28-July 21 at the University of the South, Sewanee, Tenn. Heritage Society Months-- The Executive Board has authorized February and March to be observed in our diocese as Heritage Society Months. Heritage Society chapters in our parishes are made up of those parishioners who have indicated that they are including the church in their estate plans. Bishop Frade has asked that each congregation set aside one Sunday in February or March for emphasis on this important aspect of stewardship. Episcopal Charities (formerly the Southeast Florida Episcopal Foundation) is sending each church a CD with suggestions for observing Heritage Society Sunday and for the formation of a Heritage Society in congregations that do not already have one. Diocesan Acolyte Festival—The annual diocesan Acolyte Festival will be held Mar. 3, 9:30 a.m.-4 p.m., at Holy Family, Miami Gardens. Online registration is available on the youth event registration page, http://www.diosef.org/youthevent.php. The registration deadline is Feb. 26. The cost is $12, which includes lunch. Every five youth participating should be accompanied by one adult. The festival is an opportunity for acolytes from all parishes in the diocese to share fellowship, learning and worship. Acolyte teams are asked to bring their vestments, torches, processional crosses and thuribles for the festival Eucharist. Bishop Frade will be celebrant for the Eucharist, and the preacher will be the former diocesan Canon for Youth Ministry, Fr. Terrence Taylor, now rector of St. Christopher’s, West Palm Beach.

Men’s Ministry Workshop—There will be a workshop Mar. 3 from 9 a.m. to noon at St. Mark the Evangelist, Ft. Lauderdale, for those who are involved in men’s ministries and those who would like to begin men’s ministry in their parish. This will be a time for brainstorming and sharing experiences for strengthening and expanding men’s ministries in our diocese. BGI Foundation website—The Bishop Gray Inn Foundation, which provides financial assistance to help elderly Episcopalians from the Dioceses of Southeast, Southwest and Central Florida with the cost of retirement and/or long-term care facilities, now has a website. “Appreciative Parenting” Retreat—This workshop for clergy and others who work with family relationships will be held Mar. 16-18 at the Duncan Center. Anti-Racism Training--The Diocesan Anti-Racism Commission has scheduled an Anti-Racism Training workshop Apr. 28, 2007, at St. Paul’s, Delray Beach, from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. This training was mandated by General Convention 2000 for all clergy, staff and lay leaders as a step toward ending institutional and other forms of racism. The cost for the workshop is $10, which includes continental breakfast, lunch and all workshop materials. St. Andrew’s, Lake Worth, continues its lecture series on “Religion and Science in Contemporary Life”, on Feb. 2 with Religion, Science and Human Sexuality. The last of the series, “Religion, Science and Cosmology”, will be on Mar. 2. Click here for details. The ECW of St. Luke’s, Port Salerno, will once again host their annual Fashion Show and Luncheon Fundraiser.  This year’s event, “Cruisin’ thru the Treasure Coast”, will be held at The Yacht and Country Club, 3883 SE Fairway East, Stuart on Saturday, Feb. 24 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.  All proceeds will be donated to local community outreach projects and individual scholarships awarded to youths seeking higher education assistance. To celebrate Black History month, the Boys’ Choir of Tallahassee under the direction of Dr. Earle Lee, Jr. will be offering a program at St. Paul’s, Delray Beach, on Sunday, Feb. 25 at 4 p.m.  This concert is jointly sponsored by Music at St. Paul’s, St. Matthew’s, Delray Beach, and the City of Delray Beach.  The Feb. 25 program offered by the choir will feature spirituals, gospel music and shows tunes. On Sunday, Mar.11 at 7 p.m., St. Andrew’s, Lake Worth, will present the Lynn String Quartet performing a program of Mozart and Beethoven. Tickets for the concert and reception are priced at $20 for adults, $10 for students under 18. The concert will be followed by a reception in St. Andrew’s Parish Hall featuring wine and hors d’oeuvres. St. Matthew’s, Delray Beach, has announced its annual Lenten Tea, to be held Sunday, March 18, 2007 at 3:00 p.m. at the South County Civic Center, 16700 Jog Rd., Delray Beach. St. Andrew's, Palmetto Bay (Miami), has an immediate need for Parish Administrator. The salary is competitive and negotiable. Sewanee Lay Chaplain position-- The University of the South, popularly known as Sewanee, is seeking a lay chaplain to work as a team member with the Chapel staff.
