The New Year brings new names for a familiar diocesan committee and an annual event: the Assessment Appeals Committee is now the Parish Finance and Assessment Commission, and the Wardens and Treasurers Conference has become the Parish Leadership Conference. The new names reflect our changing needs and changing ministries--the Parish Finance and Assessment Commission seeks to advise and assist parishes with all aspects of funding their ministries, not just assessment reduction or diocesan aid; and beginning last year, the Wardens and Treasurers Conference was expanded to cover many areas of parish leadership and to include other parish leaders in addition to wardens and treasurers.

Parishes that need to meet with the Parish Finance and Assessment Commission should call Jackie Fernandez, 800-268-9993 or 305-373-0881, ext. 26. Application forms can be downloaded at http://www.diosef.org/forms/assessment_appeals.pdf

Watch for more information soon on the Parish Leadership Conference.

Jackie Means, the Episcopal Church's director of prison ministries. Opportunities for ministry to inmates and their families will be explored with an array of speakers; programs to be presented include summer camps for children of inmates, after-care and re-entry to society of released offenders, and Kairos. Overnight accommodations will be available. For more information call Archdeacon Susan Henderson at (239) 939-2880.

License to Officiate—A reminder to clergy who are not canonically resident—licenses to officiate must be renewed annually! If you’re assisting or doing supply work in our diocese and have not written to Bishop Frade requesting to be licensed for 2006, please do so as soon as possible. Clergy new to the diocese who wish to be licensed to officiate here should also first contact Brenda Rasmus, secretary in the Deployment Office, 561-656-0868, regarding the required background screening.

Survey on technology use--Church Publishing Inc. and the Church Pension Group are interested in learning more about how Episcopalians use technology in their daily lives and in their church and devotional lives. They’ve posted a brief online survey, which asks some questions about general technology use, computer platforms, Internet connectivity, worship patterns, personal devotional habits, etc. It's entirely anonymous--your e-mail address won't be collected or tracked. The survey will be available at www.cpg.org/techsurvey until Jan. 31.

CCN programs at the Duncan Center—Beginning in January, the Duncan Center will offer opportunities to view satellite broadcasts of some of the leadership training programs offered through Christian Communication Network. Click here for the January schedule. Call 561-496-4130 to register for any of the programs or for more information. To learn more about CCN, go to http://www.ccn.tv/ For descriptions of other upcoming programs at the Duncan Center, go to http://www.duncancenter.org/pix/programs-brochure.pdf

Special Appeal for Liberia—Bishop Ottley is one of ten bishops who have launched an appeal for dioceses and congregations to pledge financial support for the Episcopal Church of Liberia as it seeks to rebuild its congregations and communities shattered by more than two decades of civil war. Click here for more information on how your congregation can participate in this mission outreach partnership with the Church in Liberia.

Peer Ministry Training—will be offered for students Mar. 10-12, 2006, at DaySpring Camp and Conference Center in Ellenton, Fla.  For adults, the training will be part of the Youth Ministers Retrreat and Training weekend April 21-23 at the Duncan Center. For additional information, contact Canon Terrence Taylor, ttaylor@diosef.org or 800-268-9993 or 305-373-0881, ext. 28.

PLSE--The PLSE ("pulse") program is an interdenominational effort with the dual purpose of nurturing young persons who want to explore a possible call to vocational church leadership, and developing a mentoring-guiding-shepherding process that encourages and lifts up those who explore or discern a call. PLSE maintains an interactive website, www.theplse.org, for young persons exploring a call to ministry and the people (including congregations) who support them. Diocesan youth ministry encourages high school and college students to visit the site and sign up online to become part of the conversation. Young persons who enroll in the site earn the title “PLSE Leader”—a good addition to college and job applications.

Labyrinth programs with Lauren Artress—The Rev. Dr. Lauren Artress, founder of Veriditas, the organization that has reintroduced the labyrinth and walking meditation as spiritual tools, will be in residence at the Duncan Center for a series of labyrinth-related programs May 26-30, 2006. In addition to leading a labyrinth retreat May 26 and 27, Artress will offer a day with clergy, spiritual directors and retreat leaders on May 28 and labyrinth facilitator training May 29-30.
