"Beyond Telepathy" —Plan to join our bishops Apr. 13, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at All Saints’, Ft. Lauderdale for this workshop designed to teach "Tools for Transforming Lives". The workshop is part of our ongoing diocesan vision/mission process and will feature the Christian drama group Friends of the Groom. The cost for the day is $5 and includes lunch. Childcare will be provided. Reservations are needed for both the workshop and for childcare; registration forms and additional information will be available in all parishes. Holy Week Clergy Day—Easter 2002 will be early (Mar. 31), so Bishop Frade would like all clergy to know that the guest speaker for the Holy Week Clergy Day and Blessing of the Oils, Mar. 26, will be the Rev. Lloyd A. ("Tony") Lewis, professor of New Testament at Virginia Theological Seminary. Mark your calendars for that date.

Start Up! Start Over!—For the first time, this seminar on church growth is being offered in our diocese, at the Doubletree Guest Suites in Ft. Lauderdale, April 22-26. Transitioning Conference -- Another oppotrunity to learn more about becoming a mission-oriented church is available at the "Transitioning" conference March 12 - 14 at Flamingo Road Church, Ft. Lauderdale. Like our day with Pastor Chris Nelson on February 28, this conference is based on the concepts developed at Saddleback Church and described in The Purpose-Driven Church (one of the books on Bishop Frade's suggested reading list). Our dioceses has sent people to the Purpose -Driven Church conference, so for purposes of the Transitioning conference, participants from any of our congregations would be given "alumni" rate. Fees for Supply Clergy--The Clergy and Lay Compensation and Insurance Committee has approved a new rate for supply clergy officiating at two Sunday services. The new "stole fee", which will be printed in the new diocesan Journal, is $250, "recommended, but negotiable".

Toward 2020—Another opportunity for evangelism training is the Bowen Conference at Kanuga, Mar. 18-21 (theme: Towards 2020: New Horizons, New Perspectives, New Disciples). This conference is designed to equip individual leaders and parish teams for the work of evangelism. There is a 25% discount for any group of four persons registering together by Mar. 11. Church Signs—One of the important ways we make our churches welcoming to visitors is by making them easy to find. EFM Mentor Training—is scheduled for May 24-26, 2002 at the Duncan Center. Both Basic Mentor and Mentor Formation seminars will be offered. Parish Communicators’ Workshop—The first in a series of workshops sponsored by diocesan Communications Ministry for parish communicators is scheduled for May 18, 9:30 a.m. to noon, at St. Joseph’s, Boynton Beach. (Future workshops will be held in other parts of the diocese.) Topics will reflect the responses and comments received on last spring’s parish communication questionnaire. Watch for more information soon on this opportunity to learn some practical skills for making our ministries more visible.

French/Creole LEM classes--Lay Eucharistic Ministry (LEM) training in French/Creole will be conducted for the first time this spring. Dean Fritz Bazin will be the instructor for the classes, which will begin in April at St. Paul’s et les Martyrs d’Haiti, 6744 N Miami Avenue, Miami. Classes will begin in April. Credit Union–-Florida Episcopal Dioceses Federal Credit Union (FEDFCU) has announced that parishioners of all Episcopal churches throughout the Diocese of Southeast Florida are now eligible for membership in this unique faith-based credit union. The Daughters of the King of the South Palm Beach Deanery will offer a two-part Spiritual Gifts Workshop for women May 11 and 18, from 9 a.m. to noon at St. Paul’s, Delray Beach. Mary Beth Wells, M.A., M.Ed., Lay Pastoral Minister at St. Paul’s and a teacher at the Diocesan School, will lead the workshop. The cost is $20 (payable to St. Paul’s), which covers participation in both sessions, the Spiritual Gifts workbook, and light refreshments. Do you have a set of English Handbells that your congregation is not currently using? All Saints’, Ft. Lauderdale, is looking for a two to three octave handbell set to rent with possible option to buy. We would like to begin using them in April if possible. Organ and Tissue Donation--April 21-27 has been designated as National Organ and Tissue Donation Awareness Week. Every 18 minutes a new person is added to the national organ transplant list. The Eastern Ontario Branch of The Royal School of Church Music is sponsoring an Ecumenical Summer School for Church Musicians--organists, choir-directors, pianists, keyboard players, guitarists and music group leaders—Aug. 1-14, 2002, in Brockville -" City of The Thousand Islands". Course content is to be aimed at musical repertoire for small churches, and will be particularly suited to those who might be relatively new to the arena of church music, or those who have never had the opportunity for specialized study.
