October was an eventful month. Two hurricanes notwithstanding,
the North Palm Beach Deanery provided smooth organization
and gracious hospitality for Diocesan Convention. Convention
reports, including resolutions, elections, Bishop Frade’s
address, the budget and a photo gallery, are posted on
the website at http://www.diosef.org/convention/04/index.html .
On
Oct. 18 the Lambeth Commission on Communion released
the report of its year-long deliberations on how to maintain the highest degree of communion possible
following the decisions made by the Episcopal Church
and the Anglican Church of Canada on issues involving
homosexuality. “The Windsor Report” and helpful resources
for studying and reflecting on it can also be found on
our website at http://www.diosef.org/windsor_report.html
Information
on the effects of the hurricanes in our diocese is still
posted, as are updates on how to help with hurricane
recovery in Florida and throughout the Caribbean. This
information is at http://www.diosef.org/hurricane_updates.html
Our
latest news is Bishop Frade’s appointment of a new Archdeacon
for Deployment—the Rev. Mary Gray-Reeves, rector
of St. Margaret’s, Miami Lakes, will begin her ministry
as archdeacon in January.

Update
your website!—In anticipation of Thanksgiving and Christmas, we
plan to have a special link on the front page of
the diocesan website to the listing of parishes,
so that seekers can find times of Thanksgiving, Advent
and Christmas services at a church in their neighborhood.
This is the time to post a webpage if you don’t have
one, or to update your existing website to include
times of special services. Please don’t let someone
who wants to be in church for Christmas find a webpage
that hasn’t been updated since your Lenten listing
of Easter services! If you don’t have a website and
would like your Thanksgiving and/or Christmas services
to be posted, email a flyer with the name, address,
phone number and email contact for your parish to
Mary Cox, episcorat@aol.com.
Bishop’s
Lay Ministry Awards—The
deadline for parishes to submit their nominations
for the second annual Bishop’s Awards for Lay Ministry

her at 800-268-9993 or 305-373-00881, ext. 20, by Nov.
1. The awards will be presented at a service
Nov. 20, at 11 a.m., at St. Gregory’s, Boca Raton.
New
Member Ministry Workshop— On

to cover the cost of materials. Bring a bag lunch.

Episcopal
World Hunger Sunday-- Episcopal Relief and Development
(ERD) has designated Nov. 14 as Episcopal World Hunger
Sunday. Episcopal World Hunger Sunday is a coordinated
hunger awareness and action initiative in support of the
United Nation’s Millennium Development Goals, in
which every parish in the Episcopal Church is helping to
cut in half by 2015 the number of children who suffer from
hunger in the U.S. and worldwide. ERD statistics state
that this goal can be met if each person contributed 7
cents a day. Material on this initiative has been sent
to parishes; for more information, call 800-334-7626 ext.
5129 or visit http://www.er-d.org.
Want
to learn Spanish? It’s not too late
to register for the Conversational Spanish course at
the Diocesan School,
at St. Mark the Evangelist, 1750 East Oakland Park Blvd.,
Ft. Lauderdale. Although this semester’s classes
have already started, with a little extra study, you
could catch up. The course would be very helpful for
someone
is interested in going on a mission trip to a Spanish
speaking area. The remaining classes for this semester
are from
10:20 to 11:50 a.m. on Nov. 6 and 20; Dec. 4 and 11.

assistance of the National Anti-Racism Committee
of the Episcopal Church, will provide an anti-racism
workshop for clergy and lay leaders and diocesan
staff on Nov. 17 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Trinity
Cathedral, Miami. This is the first workshop to offer
this training, which will be required for clergy,

as possible throughout the diocese.

on planned short-term missions and mission training
events in the diocese. If you have a mission trip planned
for next year or would like assistance with planning
a short-term mission, contact Diocesan Missions Coordinator

Planning for the Acreage—For the past year our diocese has been working on
plans to start a new Episcopal congregation
in the Acreage in the Callery-Judge Grove area. Callery-Judge
Grove has extended an invitation to all interested
parties to participate in creating a master plan for
their property at various events scheduled during November
5- 11. This is an opportunity for the diocese
to have a voice in laying the groundwork in an
area where we intend to plant a new church. If you
are interested in participating in this process, contact
Linda Schlepp-Gray at linda@diosef.org or call 954-450-7247.
