A few reminders about our Diocesan Convention: The deadline for hotel reservations at our reduced rate was extended to Oct. 1, so if your congregation’s delegates have not yet reserved their rooms, call the Radisson Mart Plaza (305-261-3800) today.  The deadline for nominations for various diocesan positions is Oct. 4; those should go to the secretary of Convention, Canon Kerry Robb (gkrobb@stmarkspbg.org). Any delegate unable to attend Convention should give all Convention materials, including the convocation packet, to the alternate who will attend in his or her place. The Convention Golf Tournament originally scheduled for Oct. 18 has been cancelled. Any updated Convention information will be posted at www.diosef.org/2002convention.html.

Journal—The Diocesan Journal for 2001 is posted on the diocesan website at http://diosef.org/journal/. It is password protected. The password was given out at the fall Clergy Conference and has been emailed to clergy whose email addresses we have; if you don’t have it, email Mary Cox at EpiscoRat@aol.com, or call the Diocesan Office. Please check your own information, and follow the instructions for making corrections. The complete diocesan database will soon be available on the website, and we’d like to start with that information as up-to-date as possible. With the updated information we receive from you, we should be able to post the 2002 Journal within a few weeks after Convention. We’ll notify you as soon as it is available.

Parochial Report graphs—Graphs of Parochial Report statistics (baptisms, attendance, pledging, etc.) for the diocese are in the online Journal. If you would like graphs of these statistics for your parish, contact Gail McShane at the Diocesan Office, gail@diosef.org. (Microsoft Excel 2000 is required to open these.)

Medical Insurance—Open enrollment for active clergy, retirees under 65 and lay employees covered by Church Insurance is this month; materials are to be mailed from New York the week of Oct. 7. There will be no change from last year in the plans offered, so if you are not making a change in your coverage, you will not need to make any change on your enrollment form (though you will need to return the form). Please complete your form as quickly as possible; all forms must be returned to Gail McShane in the Diocesan Office by Oct. 25. (Open enrollment will be next spring for retirees 65 and over covered by the Medicare supplement plan.)

Parish Communicators’ Workshop—A workshop for parish communicators is scheduled for Oct. 12, 9:30 a.m. to noon, at St. Thomas, Coral Gables. Presented by the team that led our successful first workshop at St. Joseph’s in May, the morning will offer strategies and techniques for public relations and internal communications, and information on developing a parish website—plus time to exchange ideas with others who are working in this ministry. Contact Mary Cox at the Diocesan Office, by phone, 1-800-268-9993 or email, EpiscoRat@aol.com, for further information

Computer class for clergy and parish staff--The diocesan Electronic Communications Committee is offering a "Basic Computer Class" for any interested clergy and/or parish staff on Oct. 22, from 10 a.m. to noon, at the Southwest Broward Regional Library, 16835 Sheridan Street, Pembroke Pines. (For directions, go to http://www.broward.org/library/directions.htm#SWR.) The class will cover the basics of email and the Internet, and if time permits, some information on Microsoft Word. Space is limited to 25 participants, so reservations are on a first-come/first-served basis. Email Communications Convener Fr. Bryan Hobbs at dochobbs@holysacrament.org now to reserve your space.

Presiding Bishop's Visit--Mark your calendars now for the visit of Presiding Bishop Frank Griswold to our diocese next January 25! Bishop Griswold will be at St. Paul's, Key West, for that congregation's 170th observance of its patronal festival--a celebration for the whole diocese of 170 years of Episcopal presence in South Florida. Plan to spend the day (or the weekend), but make your reservations soon-it will be the height of "the season". St. Paul's has made arrangements with the Hotel La Concha (just across Duval Street) for group rates of $179 per night-until the rooms are filled, and if reservations are made by Jan. 4; call 305-296-2991, be sure to mention that you're part of St. Paul's group. For additional lodging information, go to www.keywest.com and click on "accommodations".

Websites--We need to link all parish websites to the diocesan site. If you have a website that is not linked (check www.diosef.org/sites.htm), please let us know!

Net mailing list—Don’t forget to keep your congregation’s mailing list for The Net up to date. If you don’t know who’s on your list, contact US Data (305-256-0293 or data@usdps.com) for a printout and instructions for submitting a new list.

Spanish radio ministry—Our Hispanic Commission produces a weekly half-hour radio program, broadcast Sundays at 8:30 a.m. on WQBA, 1140 AM in Miami. Clergy featured in October will be Canon Luis Quiroga (Oct. 6 and 13) and Fr. Ramon Aymerich (Oct. 20 and 27); Bishop Frade will be the speaker on November’s programs.

Congratulations--to two members of our Diocesan Staff: Receptionist Jessy Cajina, who married Guillermo Soria on Sept. 28, and Administrative Asst. for Mission Development and Support Mary Cobiella, whose first grandchild, Brandon Anthony Rodriguez, was born Sept. 20 to daughter Kimberly and Anthony Rodriguez!
