The
Venerable Dr. Bryan A. Hobbs
The
Venerable Dr. Bryan A. Hobbs was born on April 20, 1946 in Connellsville,
Pennsylvania. He spent his childhood years in West Virginia.
Hobbs graduated from the School of Theology at the University
of the South in 1975. He was ordained as a deacon at St. Paul’s Church,
Key West, on June 1 of that year, and as a priest at St. Peter’s Church,
Key West, on December 11, during St. Peter’s 100th anniversary celebration. He
received a Doctorate of Ministry in Missions and Church Growth from
Fuller Theological Seminary in 1997. His dissertation, he says, dealt
with “the development of ‘Purpose-Driven Church’ concepts in the Episcopal
Church.”
Archdeacon Hobbs
served at all three churches in Key West, Florida. He was the Assistant
to the Rector at St. Paul’s Church from 1975-1976. He was Rector at
St. Peter’s Church from 1975-1978 and Holy Innocents from 1976-1978. He
served as Rector at Holy Sacrament Church in Pembroke Pines, Florida
from 1978-2002. Under his leadership, Holy Sacrament grew from a small
mission congregation to a parish of well over 1000 members. In January
2003, Hobbs was instituted as Archdeacon of Congregational Ministries
for the Diocese of Southeast Florida.
His passion is serving on Mission Teams. He has led numerous
Mission Teams serving in Panama, Honduras, the Virgin Islands, the
Bahamas, Jamaica and the Dominican Republic.
Archdeacon Hobbs and his wife Annabel were married on June
1, 1968. They have two adult daughters and five grandchildren.
